The ED81S with GPD2 Mount and D2M Motor Set from Vixen features the remarkable ED81S apo refractor – a remarkable telescope that sets a lofty optical standard. The ED81S will amaze demanding astronomers and astrophotographers with its superior color-correction, bright views, and stunning clarity.
The ED81S is an apochromatic refractor with a focal length of 624 mm and an aperture of 3.2″. It combines the assets of highly-corrected ED glass lenses and a fast f/7.7 focal ratio to deliver outstanding wide-field deep-sky imagery.
Vixen’s lead-free ED glass lenses are environmentally friendly and they produce a crisp high-contrast field of view that’s virtually free of false color. They’re capable of focusing the full visible spectrum with extreme accuracy – chromatic aberrations are minimized to nearly undetectable levels.
The ED81S is extremely stable yet it only weighs 7.5 lb. It’s fitted with 9.0″ mounting rings. A dovetail plate is provided, and the carry handle features a threaded stud for piggybacking a camera. This package includes Vixen’s lanthanum-glass NLV 25 mm eyepiece and a flip mirror system. The 25 mm eyepiece provides 25x magnification on the ED81S, while the flip mirror assembly can be configured with a second eyepiece or a camera. When an interesting object has been located, The Dual Speed Focuser offers a normal/coarse focus, or the extremely-fine 1/7th speed focusing for critical observation.
The GPD2 is a finely-machined and very portable equatorial mount – its maximum load capacity is 50% greater than the GP2’s – it readily accommodates heavier OTAs with accessories. This GPD2 mount has been factory-upgraded with the D2M motor set – a complete dual MT-1WT motor drive kit with a controller for right ascension and declination movements that is compatible with the optional Starbook ‘go-to’ systems. Featuring extremely-precise 144-tooth worm gears that nearly eliminate periodic error, the GPD2 is also equipped with an illuminated polar axis scope. Its maximum load capacity is a remarkable 35 lb, and the mount itself weighs a moderate 18.7 lb. One 4.2 lb counterweight and an additional 3.7 lb counterweight have been included.
To support the mount and OTA assembly, this package includes the GP-HAL130. This aluminum tripod is a solid platform that was designed specifically for Vixen’s GP mounts. It’s adjustable from 25.0″ to 39.0″, and it weighs approximately 11.0 lb.
